The IBES Bright Future's students built a bakery in their classroom and named it Cool Kids Bakery. It opened for business yesterday with homemade blueberry muffins, which they voted their favorite flavor. The kids were awesome helpers mixing and pouring ingredients. The muffins were tasty!

With the holidays approaching, the IBES students are working hard to learn about the very important Tiger Trait, KINDNESS. Every year the Illini Bluffs School District partners with the local not-for-profit organization IB Christmas Hope to fill food baskets for local families in need. Next week, November 14th-18th, the students have the opportunity to participate in the "Spirit of Giving" dress-up week. IBES is asking all grade levels, Pre-K through 5th-grade students, to bring in Jello gelatin and pudding mixes OR monetary donations to participate in the dress-up days. Students will be encouraged to donate five boxes of Jello gelatin and pudding mixes OR give a $5 monetary donation for the week. We want our students to understand the importance of COLORING the WORLD with kindness. By assisting with our local organization, you can help your students understand what a difference they can make for people in need. The IBES 5th graders are taking on weekly leadership activities. They are loving being role models! One group created an interactive bulletin board where students take a compliment and give a compliment, students did this with the intent of helping students who need a "positive pick-me-up." It is a great day to be an IBES Tiger!

One of our newest Community Hour classes, Your Footprint On the World, had a busy, busy week learning about sustainability. On Tuesday, we discussed how buying products from local farms and farmers markets is one of the easiest ways to live sustainably. Our Garden Spot Vegetable Farm organic apples were used to make applesauce the old fashioned way, and unlike some apples in the store that travel thousands of miles, our apples only traveled 30 miles from Princeville to Glasford! By Thursday, we were ready to hop on the bus for a pop-up lesson on how local businesses provide us another way to live sustainably. We put our lessons into action, first stopping at Kroger to shop for discounted food that may otherwise end up in the dumpster, and then visiting a great local business, Big Mike’s Donuts & Coffee. We’ll use our groceries to enjoy a meal together, and we’ll continue to discuss the ways we can live sustainably.
